Maintaining Lincolns
Any time you’re purchasing a luxury car, you have to think beyond the purchase price. Typically, luxury cars are expensive to own, and you can expect to spend more on buying better gas, paying for repairs, and maintaining your vehicle. That being said, there is a fairly wide discrepancy between different makes and models of luxury cars, both in price and in the cost of maintenance. Are Lincolns expensive to maintain? Let’s look at some facts.
Choosing the Right Mechanic
When your Lincoln needs maintenance or repair, you won’t want to take it to a run of the mill mechanic. Mechanics and shops that specialize in Lincolns will be much better equipped to give your car the attention and care it deserves, because the mechanics are trained specifically on Lincolns and the shop has all the right equipment and tools to properly service them. What’s more, specialty mechanics whose focus is working on Lincolns will have better access to the parts necessary to keep your car in optimal condition. You may pay more at a Lincoln-specific mechanic, but it’s well worth the extra money to have the work done correctly and quickly, by people who know what they’re doing and have what they need to do it well. Make sure your mechanic uses only OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts on your Lincoln, because using parts specifically made for a Lincoln will keep it running smoothly for longer and prevent further need for repair.
Keeping Your Lincoln in Proper Running Condition
The best way to keep your Lincoln running well, so that you don’t need expensive repairs, is to have it serviced frequently. It is recommended that you have your Lincoln serviced every 10,000 miles, but if you can’t work that into your schedule, at least follow the 30-60-90 rule.
- For the first 15,000 miles, keep up with air filter cleanings, fuel filter cleanings, and oil changes.
- Between 30,000 and 60,000 miles, change the air filter, test the battery, check the fuel filter and brake pads, and replace brake fluid and coolant.
- At 60,000 miles, plan for a top to bottom inspection, focusing in particular on the safety technology features. Expect that your Lincoln may soon need a new timing belt, spark plugs, hoses, and power steering fluid.
- When you hit 90,000 miles, change the spark plugs if they haven’t already been changed. Rubber hoses and belts should also be checked and probably replaced, to avoid costly repairs.
So, are Lincoln cars expensive to maintain? Bringing your Lincoln to a service center at regular intervals for routine maintenance might seem like spending a lot of money on maintenance. However, keeping your Lincoln properly maintained actually saves you money in the long run, because your car will last longer and have fewer issues that require repair.
Minor Maintenance Milestones
Oil changes should be done every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. When you have your oil change, consider rotating your tires, so that you can stretch the time between replacements out a little further. Change or clean the air filter during oil changes, to keep allergens out of your car’s interior air space. Stay on top of recalls, and if you learn of a recall, make an appointment with your Lincoln dealership’s service department as soon as possible.
